Nationally Described Space Standards
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request the following information:
1. Have you adopted the Nationally Described Space Standard in your local plans or planning guidance?
- If so, please provide the date it was adopted.
- If not, do you have any plans to adopt it, and if so, by when are you planning to adopt it?
2. Do you use any alternative space standards in your local plans or planning guidance?
- Please provide details of the space standard in use, including the origin such as HQI.
3. If you are using space standards, do you have data on the rate of compliance for new dwellings for up to the last 10 years?
I would like you to provide the information for questions 1 and 2 in an email, and question 3 in a spreadsheet, if available.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request the following information:
1. Have you adopted the Nationally Described Space Standard in your local plans or planning guidance? The Nationally Described Space Standard is not adopted within our adopted Core Strategy and Policies for Management of Development, but is referenced within our Residential Alterations & Extensions SPD in relation to the creation of new dwellings by subdivision.
- If so, please provide the date it was adopted. The Residential Alterations & Extensions SPD was adopted in July 2017
- If not, do you have any plans to adopt it, and if so, by when are you planning to adopt it? We are currently in the process of preparing a new Local Plan as well as a Thurrock Design Code, and no decision has yet been made as to the incorporation or not of the Nationally Described Space Standard
2. Do you use any alternative space standards in your local plans or planning guidance? We do not use alternative space standards in our adopted Local Plan or Supplementary Planning Documents.

3. If you are using space standards, do you have data on the rate of compliance for new dwellings for up to the last 10 years? We do not have compiled data on rate of compliance for new dwellings for up to the last 10 years.
