Help during power cuts

UK Power Networks support

UK Power Networks (UKPN) owns and maintains the electricity network in Thurrock. They sort out the problem when there's a power cut.

UK Power Networks – report power problems

You should not contact your electricity supplier or the council to report a power cut

Help for vulnerable people

UK Power Networks keeps a list of customers who would feel particularly vulnerable during a power cut. They use this list to offer extra help if it's needed.

You can apply to be included on the list if either you:

  • are dependent on medical equipment
  • are chronically ill
  • have a disability
  • are visually impaired or blind
  • are hearing impaired or deaf
  • are elderly
  • run a nursing or residential home
  • have a young baby in your household

Other cases can be included if you think you would be particularly vulnerable during a power cut.

Help that can be offered

UKPA can't restore the power more quickly for vulnerable people but they can:

  • call to warn if bad weather in the area could cause a power cut, and offer advice on how to prepare
  • offer a special priority phone number you can call during a power cut
  • provide hot meals or book you into a hotel
  • provide a generator for those with medical equipment
  • keep you updated with text messages or phone calls
  • with your agreement, ask the British Red Cross to visit your home for extra help and support

Apply to be included
