Library notices

All Thurrock libraries will be closed on Monday 6 May (Early May bank holiday) and Monday 27 May (Spring bank holiday). Libraries will be open at their usual times on all other days in May.

Joining the library

If you live, work or study in Thurrock you can become a library member at any age.

It's free to join and you don’t need to show any proof of who you are. You can join online and collect your library card when you visit your chosen library.

Join the library online

If you join at your local library there are no forms to fill in, just ask a member of staff. If you are under 16 years-old, bring a parent or carer with you the first time you visit.

You can use your card to borrow items from any Thurrock library or Essex County Council library.

Your library account details

Please make sure your contact details are kept up-to-date on your library account. We may contact you by email, text or voicemail to tell you about your reservations and when items are due for renewal or are overdue. We no longer send letters by post so it's important to add your email address, if you have one.

You can update your details by going to the library catalogue and selecting 'My Account'. You will need to login using your library card number, not the My Account details you use for other council services. If you're unsure what to do, you can ask a member of library staff to help when you next visit a library.

Group membership

Group membership allows you to borrow books for children or groups of children that you care for.

Group membership is available for:

  • pre-schools and nurseries
  • childminders
  • foster carers
  • youth groups, for example cubs and brownies, girls and boys brigade

A group membership form can be picked up from your chosen library.
