Safer school journeys
There are several schemes to make travelling to school safer. These include:
Park and stride
Park and stride is a way of reducing congestion around local schools. Parents are encouraged to park a short distance from the school and then walk with their children the rest of the way. Park and stride provides an ideal opportunity for children be physically active, which is crucial to their health.
School crossing patrol service
There are currently 18 school crossing patrol sites in Thurrock. Although it is a parent's responsibility to ensure their child's welfare on the journey to and from school, the school crossing patrol officers are there to provide safer places to cross.
School travel plans
School travel plans are documents produced by the schools themselves. They set out good road safety practice for pupils travelling to and from the school. We want all Thurrock schools and academies to have a travel plan online at Modeshift Stars.
