Standards of conduct you can expect

We are committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct from our councillors and officers.

The standards for councillors are set out in the members’ code of conduct. The general principles of the code are listed below.

Selflessness

councillors should serve the public and should not seek an improper advantage or disadvantage for any person

Integrity

councillors should not place themselves in situations where their integrity may be questioned

Objectivity

councillors should make decisions on merit when making appointments, awarding contracts, or recommending people for rewards or benefits

Accountability

councillors should be accountable for their actions and the manner they carry them out

Openness

councillors should be open about their actions and prepared to give reasons for them

Honesty

councillors should not behave improperly and should avoid the appearance of such behaviour

Leadership

councillors should support these principles by leadership and acting in a way that encourages public confidence
