How we plan our finances

General Fund

Our General Fund is where we manage our financial activities for all services and sources of income, except our financial activities as a housing landlord.

Excluding activities as a housing landlord, the money from our General Fund can:

  • pay for the day-to-day running of our services
  • be set aside for capital expenditure
  • pay levies to outside bodies for services that cover an area wider than Thurrock

Outside bodies to which we pay levies are:

  • Environment Agency – Flood Defence
  • Essex Coroners' Service
  • Kent and Essex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority
  • Lee Valley Regional Park Authority

General Fund budget 2021/22

We approve a General Fund budget before the start of each financial year (1 April to 31 March).
