Neighbourhood planning

Examination

An independent examiner will be appointed, with agreement from the community forum. The appointment will be paid for by us. The examiner will have:

  • appropriate qualifications and experience
  • no interest in land affected by the neighbourhood plan

They will check that the plan meets the right basic standards, as defined in the regulations. The examination will generally be carried out in writing. In some cases it may be held as a public hearing.

The examiner will recommend changes if the plan does not meet the right standards. We will consider these and decide whether to make the changes. Community consultation may be needed if the changes are significant.
