Innovative new council building paves way for ambitious regeneration

Today (Wednesday 8 June), Thurrock Council officially opened the doors to the ground floor of its new £9.8million Civic Offices building.
The contemporary 3-storey building, which will be delivered on budget, has been designed firmly with energy-efficiency in mind, showing the council's commitment to sustainability, lowering its environmental impact and kick-starting huge regeneration plans across Grays.

Education Awards finalists announced after record nominations

The finalists of this year's Thurrock Education Awards have been announced following more than 500 nominations from young people, parents and colleagues across the borough.
A total of 44 individuals and teams have been shortlisted across 11 award categories, with winners due to be announced at a special awards ceremony on Friday 8 July.

Fuel protest injunction extended until May 2023

An innovative injunction which prevents protestors from blocking roads and vehicles at key fuel terminals and filling stations in the borough has been extended to May 2023.
The interim injunction was granted on 25 April 2022 following weeks of protests at oil terminals that saw Essex Police make 461 arrests and cost Essex Police, Thurrock Council and other partners more than £1million.

Owner reunited with his ring thanks to Tim and team

A grateful man has thanked Thurrock Council Cemeteries Operative Tim Stock after he found and returned his wedding ring which had fallen off when he was visiting the burial site of a loved one in Chadwell Cemetery.
After fruitlessly searching all around the memorial, the distraught man – who once lived in Thurrock but now lives in Southampton – thought that he had lost his wedding ring of 48 years for good. However, Tim scoured the area and was able to find the ring, get in touch with the man who was staying in a nearby hotel, and reunite them.

Horndon Bridge renamed for Platinum Jubilee

Horndon Bridge – a footpath and bridleway linking the village of Horndon on the Hill with Stanford-le-Hope – has been renamed in tribute to The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Today (Wednesday 1 June) the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr James Halden, was joined by the Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr Rob Gledhill, and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and External Affairs, Cllr Mark Coxshall, to cut the ribbon and unveil the name plaques of the officially renamed Platinum Jubilee Bridge.

New Stanford-le-Hope Station images released ahead of work starting

New images of Stanford-le-Hope railway station – including wider platforms, new canopies, and a footbridge with lifts – have been released, giving residents a sneak peak of what's to come ahead of spades hitting the ground later this year.
The artist impressions feature modern canopy structures designed to create an inviting space that maximises visibility as far as possible and provide areas that feel open and safe.

Friendship Club re-launches and celebrates the Platinum Jubilee

Thurrock Council has today (Monday 30 May) re-opened the doors of the Friendship Club, following a 2-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event was also an opportunity for those who use the Friendship Club to come together with the service and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Cream teas were enjoyed, as were activities in the garden, performances from the Friendship Club Choir, and the official re-opening of the centre.

Lance Corporal Nicky Mason Way official road naming

Aveley Bypass has been officially renamed Lance Corporal Nicky Mason Way in honour of Nicky Mason, who died aged 26 serving his country in Afghanistan in 2008.
Lance Corporal Mason, who grew up in Aveley, was on patrol in near Kajaki in the Helmand province as part of 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, when he was killed in an explosion on 13 September 2008.

Leader thanks police for quick response to unlicensed event

Today (Sunday 29 May) Essex Police quickly responded to shut down and prevent an unlicensed music event that had been arranged to take place on Globe Industrial Estate in Little Thurrock.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Rob Gledhill said, "I would like to pass on my thanks to Essex Police for quickly responding to intelligence received, to ensure the unlicensed music event did not run to the anticipated scale today.
"Unlicensed music events are a criminal activity, they are a significant disturbance to local residents and can pose a high risk to attendees.
