Some of the most inspirational children and young people from across Thurrock came together to celebrate a host of remarkable achievements at the 2026 SEND and Alternative Provision Awards.
Cllr Bill Cook, Mayor of Thurrock raised the Armed Forces Day Flag at the council’s Civic Offices today.
The Mayor was joined by Cllr Richard Bingley, Leader of Thurrock Council, fellow councillors, Thurrock Council Cabinet members, MP Jen Craft, members of the Royal British Legion and Army Cadets and the Grays Town Band, who played the national anthem as the flag was raised.
Some of Thurrock’s most remarkable looked-after children and young people were recognised for their inspiring achievements during a special awards ceremony.
The Children Looked After Celebration Event was held at Blackshots Civic Hall on Friday 12 June, bringing together young people, carers, councillors and council staff.
More Thurrock residents are seeking support to quit smoking, with referrals to Thurrock Council’s Healthy Lifestyle Stop Smoking Service increasing by 21% compared with the same period last year.
Better communications with tenants; proactive maintenance to avoid serious repairs and completing more repairs on the first visit are among improvements laid out in the new repairs and maintenance contract for the council’s housing.
Thurrock Council has appointed Mears to deliver the services for council homes in the borough.
Tilbury will soon have a new community run pantry and café after planning permission was granted to transform an underused building in Civic Square into a community shop, cafe and hub for local people.
Following investment from the Tilbury Towns Fund, the building, and its extension into the existing Tilbury Library, will be transformed into a multi-use site supporting the local community.
