Reducing waste

Freegle in Thurrock

Freegle is a national organisation of people who give and receive free unwanted items in their immediate communities. Local communities, charities and non-profit groups are encouraged to join.

All groups within the organisation operate with a basic principle that all offers and requests must be 'freegle' – that is, 'free' and 'legal'.

The aim is to keep anything reusable out of our landfill sites.

How Freegle works

When you want to find a new home for something – whether it's a chair, a computer, a piano, or an old door – you send an email offering it to members of the Freegle group.

If you're interested in getting something for yourself, simply respond to a member's offer. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to agree a pick-up time for passing on the item.
