Roads and pavements maintenance

Private roads

We are not responsible for private roads.

The private owners are responsible for maintaining their road. They are usually the people who live along the road

Private roads are usually unmade – for example, they don't have a bitumen or concrete surface.

Reporting an unsafe private road

The owners are usually responsible for the safety of their private road. If you think a problem is a danger to the public – for example, a deep hole in the middle of the road – we can arrange to make it safe by placing barriers or road closures around the hazard. The owners are responsible for permanent repairs.

You can contact us to report a problem with a private road.
