Project timeline
In 2023, we invited residents and the wider community to have their say and help shape the future Teviot Avenue. We also held a community meeting to talk with local people about the proposals.
A planning application with redevelopment proposals was submitted in January 2024 and approved at Thurrock Planning Committee on the 9th of July 2024. To view the proposals and supporting documents, go to Planning Application: 24/00111/FUL.
At a Thurrock Council Cabinet meeting on 13 March 2024, councillors agreed to:
- vacate 158-228 Teviot Avenue
- find new housing for residents
- buy-back leased properties
- find a main contractor for the development work
Redevelopment dates
An initial demolition notice was issued on the 27th of July 2024.
We program to have taken vacant possession of all properties by the summer of 2025, so demolition and construction can begin in the winter of 2025/26.
The earliest we expect new housing to be available is from autumn 2027.
Funding and management
The project is being led by our Housing Development team, supported by independent specialists.
We plan to pay for the project using money retained from sale of council homes under the Right to Buy, together with borrowing that we'll pay back using rental income from the new homes built. We need HM Treasury approval for this borrowing because of our current financial position.
