Help to improve homes with no gas boiler
If you don't use a gas boiler as your main heating system, you may be eligible for a Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) to help improve your home.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a grant from our HUG phase 2 funding (HUG2), you must:
- own and live in the property for which you're applying
- not use a gas boiler as your home's main heating system
- have a household income each year of no more than the upper limit for HUG2 when your application is processed – the upper limit is £31,000 until 31 March 2024, and £36,000 from 1 April 2024
- have an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G
If you don't know your home's EPC, you can find out when you apply.
What you can get
The maximum amount of grant available for each property is £18,000, but this depends on:
- the type of property
- the property's energy efficiency
- the type of property occupation
If you're eligible, we will arrange a home survey to see how your home could be made more energy efficient. Based on this survey, we may suggest:
- flat roof insulation
- loft insulation
- cavity wall insulation
- solid wall insulation
- internal wall insulation
- room-in-roof insulation for a loft that has been converted into a room
- underfloor insulation
- hot water cylinder insulation
- an upgrade from single to double glazing
- improved double glazing
- a boiler upgrade
- an air source or ground source heat pump
- an electric storage heater
- low energy heating
- solar energy
- heating controls
We will organise and pay for any improvement we've agreed with you. If you own and live in the property, you won't need to pay costs. If you are a landlord, you must pay a third of the costs.
