Thurrock green business grant support

Thurrock businesses can apply for funding of up to £8,000 to help them move towards greener, more sustainable practices.

Grant funding of between £2,000 and £8,000 is available on a match-funding basis for eligible businesses to spend on green projects. Businesses must be able to show proposals will increase energy efficiency, help them to grow greener and ideally help their operations grow.

Examples could include:

  • new, more efficient equipment
  • building improvements
  • LED lighting
  • energy-efficient heating – for example, solar, air-source pumps
  • second-hand or used electric business vehicles

This grant programme is funded by the GOV.UK: UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Grants will be awarded to Thurrock businesses on a first come, first served basis until no further funds remains. All grant awards will be subject to eligibility checks.

Eligibility

To be eligible, your business must:

  • be registered to a Thurrock address or have premises in Thurrock that will benefit from a grant – no grant can be used for premises outside Thurrock
  • be a small or medium-sized enterprise
  • have received less than £315,000 in public funding over the last 3 years – including the value of this grant, if awarded
  • if successful, be prepared to participate in any publicity we organise with the aim of promoting more sustainable practices by businesses in Thurrock

Grant funding

All grant awards:

  • will be between £2,000 and £8,000
  • will be capital funding
  • must help you either employ a new member of staff, improve productivity, or introduce a technology or product new to your business
  • can be used only as a contribution towards single items of equipment or installations costing £4,000 or more
  • must contribute to no more than 50% of the total costs

You must provide either:

  • a single written quote for costs up to £25,000
  • 3 written quotes for costs above £25,000

This funding cannot be used to pay for:

  • gas appliances
  • window replacements
  • remote working systems
  • new electric vehicles or chargers
  • battery storage, unless part of a solar photovoltaics (PV) installation

After you apply

We will review all applications and prioritise them using the following weightings:

  • 30% – demonstrating the impact on business energy efficiency along with the wider business impact, such as cost savings
  • 10% – demonstrating value for money
  • 10% – demonstrating the need for public investment
  • 10% – demonstrating the project is clearly deliverable within the required timescale
  • 40% – creating jobs or introducing new technologies or processes

Scoring for each of the above will be:

  • 0 – no evidence
  • 1 – poorly met
  • 2 – satisfactory
  • 3 – well met
