Eating at home

Help with cooking

If you find it difficult to go shopping for food and make your own meals, you could arrange for meals to be delivered to your home.

Community meals – 'meals on wheels'

'Meals on wheels' is the name given to a service that delivers meals direct to your door.

When we carry out an assessment of your care needs, we will look at whether you are eligible to receive a meals-on-wheels service and whether it would be suitable for you.

You may be asked to pay towards the cost of the meals.

Supermarket 'ready meals'

You can buy pre-cooked 'ready meals' from any supermarket. Ready meals can meet a range of dietary needs.

Most supermarkets can offer you the option to order online or by phone and will deliver to your door.

Ready meals can usually be heated up in a few minutes, either in the oven or a microwave. If you don't have a microwave, you should always read the packaging before buy the ready meal to make sure it can be cooked in your oven.

You should also check the contents meet your dietary and nutritional needs.
