Supported Housing

Getting into Supported Housing

The Council has a duty under the Care Act 2014 to assess and support adults who may have care and support needs.

If you think you may need support, the Council will carry out a Care Act assessment to understand your individual circumstances, the outcomes you want to achieve, and whether supported housing is the most appropriate option to help meet your needs.

Where supported housing is identified as the right solution, the Council will work with you to arrange the care and support services you need within an appropriate supported housing setting.

If you would like to be considered for supported housing, you can request a Care Act needs assessment through Thurrock First.

The assessment will help determine your support needs and if necessary, identify the most suitable accommodation and support options available to you.

Where do we provide Supported Housing?

We aim to ensure that a range of supported housing options are available across the borough, enabling people to remain within their local communities wherever possible.

To achieve this, there may be occasions when we focus on developing services in specific areas of the borough where there is an identified need. This helps us maintain a balanced range of accommodation options and ensures residents can continue to live in their communities.

We are currently only seeking new supported housing provision in areas outside of Tilbury.

As accommodation requirements can change over time, the areas in which we are seeking new provision may also change.

Providers interested in delivering supported housing services should check this page regularly for the latest information on priority locations and commissioning opportunities.

Our preference is always to offer supported housing within Thurrock. However, there may be circumstances where suitable accommodation is not immediately available and we need to consider options outside of the borough.

We will always involve individuals in decisions about where they live and provide choice wherever possible. In situations where accommodation is urgently required, a temporary placement outside Thurrock may be offered while we work to identify a suitable local option that better meets the person's preferences and long-term needs.
