Apply for a private hire operator's licence
You can apply for, or renew, a private hire operator's licence online.
You will need to submit:
- a completed application form
- a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, unless you are a driver licensed by us
- payment of the application fee – for details, go to taxi licensing fees
You must complete a government tax check before you can renew a taxi or private hire licence, or apply for the same type of licence with a different licensing authority. For guidance, go to GOV.UK: Complete a tax check for a taxi or private hire licence.
After you complete the tax check you'll be given a 9-character code. This is your tax check code. When renewing your licence, you must provide this tax check code.

Apply or renew
Use the online form below to apply. After submitting your application, you'll be asked to pay the fee online using a debit card or credit card. Your card will be checked when you pay.
At the 'Authenticating payer details' page, it's important you allow time for bank checks to take place in background – please do not refresh the page, and do not use the 'submit’ button on that page unless you've waited longer than 15 seconds.

Your application should normally be processed within 5 working days, unless there is a reason why the licence may be refused.
