Garage Waiting List Reopened

We are pleased to confirm that the council’s garage waiting list reopened on 5 May 2026.

The list was originally closed in October 2023 due to exceptionally high demand and limited availability. Since then, our Garage Services team has carried out extensive work to reduce the backlog, review allocations, renovate several garage blocks, and improve turnaround times.

Thanks to this progress, we are now able to accept new applications in the following areas: • Corringham • East Tilbury • South Ockendon

At this stage, only these locations have sufficient availability to reopen. We will continue monitoring capacity and hope to extend applications to additional areas later in the year. Thank you for your patience while this work has taken place.

Applying for a garage

If you would like to rent a council garage or garage plot, you must apply to join our waiting list.

When a garage or plot becomes available, we will make a shortlist of applicants who want to rent in that area. The shortlist will be in application date order.

When your name is next on the shortlist, we will contact you to arrange a convenient time for you to view the garage and sign a rental agreement. You must bring proof of your ID – either a:

  • passport
  • driving licence
  • CitizenCard
  • Thurrock bus pass photo ID
