Short breaks and time out for carers

Holidays with the person you care for

There are several independent organisations that offer information and advice about holidays suitable for older people or adults with disabilities.

Their experienced staff can:

  • tell you what is available
  • help you make holiday choices

Options include escorted day trips or longer holidays in the UK or abroad. These can offer a friendly face and a little extra support to those travelling.

They will also provide details of specially adapted holiday accommodation suitable for a range of different disabilities.

Assistance from airlines

Many airlines have a 'Special Assistance Team'. These teams can help you make choices and will offer you support at every stage of booking your holiday. This includes help to get through airport security and when boarding the aircraft.

You should always tell your travel agent about your disability needs, and tell the airport or travel provider in advance as they may need time to make special arrangements.
