Sometimes older adults who receive care at home are not sure whether a permanent move to a residential home will be right for them.

A short-term residential stay – or 'respite' stay – can:

  • be a break for older adults, or their carers
  • help older adults decide whether a permanent move would be right for them

Thurrock has 3 short-term residential care homes – also called respite homes – suitable for older adults, including those with dementia. They are:

Extra care flat

An extra care flat at Piggs Corner, Grays provides planned short-term stays with additional personal care.

This is not for people with severe dementia.

Limited service on Monday to Friday from 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm, and on weekends and bank holidays from 7am to 7pm.
