Between 4 March and 8 March 2019, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out an inspection of Thurrock to judge its effectiveness in implementing the special educational needs and disability (SEND) reforms of the Children and Families Act 2014.

We worked on all improvements set out in our written statement of action, regularly reviewing our timetable for improvements in line with advice from the government's Department for Education.

Notice of Ofsted and Care Quality Commission revisit

On 29 November 2021, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) gave notice they would jointly carry out a revisit inspection from 13 December to 15 December 2021. This followed the inspection that took place between 4 March and 8 March 2019. Revisit details are in the letter below.

Findings of Ofsted and Care Quality Commission revisit

Following their revisit in December 2021, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission sent the letter below on 1 February 2022 to confirm Thurrock had made sufficient progress in addressing all significant weaknesses found during their initial inspection, and formal quarterly visits would not continue.
