Wards and polling stations

Access for voters with disabilities

We try to make sure all polling stations in Thurrock are accessible for voters with disabilities. We also provide a range of services to support voters with disabilities. Some services are generally available, while others are available on request from the staff at our polling stations.

At all polling stations, we provide:

  • a parking space for voters with a disability, where parking is available
  • ramps or separate entrances for flat level access to the building
  • a low-level polling booth for wheelchair access
  • extra lighting at polling booths
  • pencils with a rubber grip for anyone with a writing disability, such as arthritis
  • large print versions of the ballot paper on general display, hand-held versions on request from our polling staff
  • a magnifier on request from our polling staff
  • a tactile voting device with braille and embossed numbers that match the ballot papers
  • chairs for anyone who needs to sit while they wait to cast their vote or after voting
  • name badges for staff so you know who to ask for assistance

We encourage voters to bring and use their own personal aids to make reading the ballot paper easier. These could be on your mobile phone or other electronic device.

Our staff are there to help you and will offer assistance.

If you have any specific needs or just want to check about the polling station, you can contact us in advance.
