Election dates

We organise several different types of election.

Council elections

Elections for one third of the council are expected to take place on Thursday 2 May 2024.

The elections in May 2024 will be for one third of the council. Elections from 2025 will be 'all out', meaning all 49 councillor posts will be up for election at the same time.

The last council elections took place for one third of the council on 4 May 2023.

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) elections are held every 4 years.

The last election of a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex took place on 6 May 2021, after being postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Next elections are due in 2024.

UK Parliament elections

The government usually holds parliamentary elections every 5 years. Go to UK Parliament.
