Elections and election results

Election dates

We organise several different types of election.

UK Parliament elections

The government usually holds parliamentary elections every 5 years. Go to UK Parliament.

The last UK Parliament elections took place on 8 June 2017. On 31 October 2019, Parliament passed legislation for the next parliamentary election to be held on Thursday 12 December 2019.

Council elections

Some wards have elections twice in 4 years. Other wards have elections 3 times in 4 years. Thurrock doesn’t have a council election in the fourth year. Sometimes we need to combine council elections with other elections.

The last council elections, for a third of the council, took place on Thursday 2 May 2019, including an additional by-election in the Chadwell St Mary ward.

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections are held every 5 years. Elections were held in Thurrock on 5 May 2016 for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

European Parliament elections

European elections are held every 5 years. The last elections were held on Thursday 23 May 2019.
