Flood investigations
We have a duty to investigate floods that occur in Thurrock.
It isn’t possible to investigate all instances of flooding across the borough but we undertake a formal investigation if:
- there has been internal flooding of a property on more than one occasion
- there has been internal flooding of 5 or more properties during a single incident
- the source or responsibility of a flooding incident is uncertain
Internal flooding means water entering a habitable building. It doesn't include the flooding of gardens and garages.
We don't have a duty to protect homes from surface water flooding but we can pursue works if it's appropriate and practical to do so.
