Residential Bag-Only Waste and Recycling Collection Service

The Council provides a residential kerbside bag-only collection service to residential properties within the borough, where a standard waste collection vehicle cannot safely gain access to the designated collection point. Generally, this service is offered to properties located on narrow roads that are difficult for larger vehicles to safely access.

Due to the identified health and safety risks associated with using standard waste vehicles at certain properties, the Council determines whether a residential property will receive a bag-only collection service. Residents are not able to request this type of collection service, nor can they request to switch to receive the standard wheeled bin waste and recycling service.

The kerbside collection service offered to properties receiving a bag only service is as follows:

Recycling waste (including garden waste where applicable) and non-recycling waste will be collected on opposite weeks. Food waste will be collected weekly. Properties receiving the Council's bag-only collection service will still have access to use our bulky waste collection service and request assisted collections if needed.

All residents’ responsibilities outlined within the Council's Waste and Recycling Collection Policy, in regards to when and how waste should be presented for collection remain applicable to residents when receiving this service (as an example, all bagged waste should be present on the on the day of their scheduled collection from 6am, at an approved collection point).

The Council's bag-only collection service has its own separate collection schedule, which can be viewed by visiting www.thurrock.gov.uk/collectionschedules. You can establish if your property receives these services and if so, the date of your next scheduled collection.
