What you can and can't take to the tip

The Household Waste and Recycling Centre is in Buckingham Hill Road, Linford, SS17 0PP. Before visiting, check our opening dates and times.

Bring proof of address such as a council tax bill or utility bill as you will be asked to prove you're a Thurrock resident – check other important guidance before you go to the tip.

You can dispose of a wide range of household waste at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

Recycling

We accept the following household items for recycling:

  • batteries – household and vehicle
  • books
  • cans and tins
  • cardboard
  • cartons and Tetra Pak
  • clothes
  • electrical appliances – anything that has a plug or uses a battery
  • fluorescent tubes
  • furniture
  • glass bottles and jars
  • garden waste – must be emptied out of bags or containers
  • metals
  • mobile phones
  • oil, cooking or engine – no more than 10 litres each year
  • paint
  • paper – newspapers, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, phone directories and catalogues
  • plastic bottles
  • printer cartridges
  • shoes
  • textiles
  • tyres – no more than 5 tyres each year
  • wood and timber

General waste

We accept the following non-recyclable items:

  • general waste
  • carpets
  • mattresses
  • polystyrene
  • vapes and electronic cigarettes

We accept no more than 3 wheelbarrow loads in total of:

  • soil
  • rubble
  • hardcore
  • plasterboard, dry wall lining or other gypsum-based waste

We accept ceramics and tiles, limited to either:

  • a single wheelbarrow load of ceramics and tiles
  • 3 large ceramic items such as a toilet or wash basin

Bulky items

We accept the following bulky items:

  • furniture such as tables, chairs and beds
  • fridges and freezers
  • white goods such as cookers, microwave ovens, dishwashers, washing machines and radiators
  • TVs and computers
