Special needs support for school-age children

Secondary schools

The following schools provide specialist support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Harris Academy Chafford Hundred

Harris Academy Chafford Hundred has 20 places in total for pupils aged from 11 years-old to 16 years-old with an education, health and care (EHC) plan for either:

  • speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
  • social communication needs

Meetings are usually arranged for December each year to offer parents and carers guidance on admissions in September the following year.

Ormiston Park Academy

Ormiston Park Academy has 30 places in total for pupils aged from 11 years-old to 16 years-old with social, emotional and mental health needs.

The pupils are supported through a specialist centre for education nurture and development (ASCEND) in the academy. ASCEND offers support through individual programmes. Pupils are able to access mainstream school activities and classes for a full and balanced curriculum.

Meetings are usually arranged for December each year to offer parents and carers guidance on admissions in September the following year.

St Clere's School

St Clere's School has 17 places in total for pupils aged from 11 years-old to 18 years-old with an education, health and care (EHC) plan for either visual impairment or hearing loss. The combined total of 17 places includes places at their:

  • secondary resource base for children and young people with vision impairment
  • additional resource provision for deaf students

A specialist teacher and trained support staff are available to help pupils, with training provided in the use of specialist equipment to help pupils with the school curriculum and to realise their potential.
