Education for looked after children

Being excluded from school

You are excluded if your behaviour is not acceptable. You can be excluded for a certain time or permanently. A fixed-term exclusion can be from 1 hour to 45 days in a term.

The school must tell your carer if you are going to be excluded, and for how long, before the exclusion takes place. After the exclusion period the head teacher will usually invite your carer to a meeting before you return to school.

Schools should give you homework if you are excluded, and a teacher should mark this homework.
