How much benefit you will be paid

Council tax and benefits online – 28 January

From 12:05am to 1pm, Saturday 28 January, due to essential maintenance work our online services for benefits and managing council tax accounts will not be available. Please do not try to use these services during this time – we apologise for any inconvenience. You can still make council tax payments online or by phone during this time.

Your benefit amount

Do not phone or email us to ask how much housing benefit or council tax support you might get as we cannot give any advice until we've processed your application and contacted you.

Get an estimate before you apply

Online benefits calculators give an estimate of how much benefit you may be able to claim.

Their estimates include benefit paid by the government and by local councils.

Go to GOV.UK: benefits calculator to find out what benefits you could get.

GOV.UK covers a wide range of benefits. Of these, Thurrock Council can only provide:

Online benefits calculators can also tell you:

  • what other benefits you could get from the government
  • how to claim benefits from the government
  • how your benefits will be affected if you start work

We cannot give any advice on amounts of benefit you might get from the government.

Checking your benefit amount if your claim is successful

After we have assessed your claim for housing benefit or council tax support, we will send you a letter in the post. We cannot answer any questions about your claim until we've finished the assessment and you receive our letter, so please don't phone or email us to ask. If your claim is successful, the letter will tell you how much of each benefit you will get.

You can also check how much you'll get and when you'll be paid by using our online My Account council tax service. You can register for My Account if you've not used it before.
