Support for carers

Free workshops for carers

During Carers Week – from 10 June to 16 June 2019 – Thurrock Adult Community College is offering free workshops for carers who are 19 years-old or older, and who help a relative or friend who is ill, disabled, elderly or in need of emotional support.

Caring for someone

A carer is someone who cares for a family member, friend or neighbour because they are ill, frail, disabled or have mental ill-health or substance misuse problems.

If you are caring for someone who could not manage without your help, you are a carer.

Find out about the help and support you can get, such as:

NHS: support and benefits for carers includes support from local councils, respite care and help for young carers. Go to NHS: find carers services for more choices.

Useful information is also available from GOV.UK: carers and disability benefits.

Carers Week

Carers Week is a campaign that takes place each year to:

  • raise awareness of caring
  • highlight the challenges that carers face
  • recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK
