Museum's education opportunities
In the Thurrock Museum, located in the Thameside Complex, Grays, you will discover more than 250,000 years of Thurrock's past in display cases with more than 1,500 objects.
As well as being open to the general public and regularly organising themed exhibitions, the museum is a valuable resource for schools and collages, helping bring history alive for students.
Here are some of the ways we work with schools and collages
In the Museum
Day in the Life of a Curator: Go behind the scenes at the Museum and find out how we care for and manage our collections. Handle some of our artefacts and explore the Museum itself.
Curriculum Links: History, Stone Age-Iron Age, Thurrock Industry. We can develop our handling activities and museum trail to suit your local history topic.
Programme Length: Whole day: 10am - 2.30pm or Half day: 10am - 12pm or 12.30pm - 2.30pm
One class of up to 32 pupils/students per visit.
Cost: Whole day: £156.00 Half Day: £78.00
You can bring more than one class in a day, i.e., one class in the morning, one in the afternoon, for the price of a whole day.
In your School
Battle of Britain: Explore the Battle of Britain through the eyes of those who lived in Thurrock at the time. Experience what it would be like in an air raid, investigate the suitcases of evacuees and calculate the cost of your weekly war-time rations.
Curriculum links: History, WW2
Programme Length: Whole day: 9.30am – 3pm Half Day: 9.30am until lunch or after lunch until 3pm
Within this, we can be flexible depending on your school timetable and the number of classes we are delivering to.
We recommend one class per session due to limited resources.
Cost: Whole day: £156.00 Half Day: £78.00.
This cost pays for museum staff. We carry out more than one session per day, however the more sessions, the shorter each session will be (but the lower the cost per pupil).
