Character appraisals
Conservation areas are regularly reviewed and the preparation of a 'character appraisal' is part of this. This re-assesses a conservation area looks again at its special interest and significance.
The appraisal helps in making decisions about the conservation area's future. It refers to national and local planning policies. The local community and other interested parties are included in the appraisal. Boundary changes and management considerations are also provided.
No appraisal can check everything so if a particular building, feature or space is left out this doesn't mean it's not interesting.
Corringham
The Corringham conservation area was designated in 1973 and its boundary extended in 1986.
East Tilbury
East Tilbury (Bata) conservation area was designated in 1993.
Fobbing
Fobbing conservation area was designated in 1976 and its boundary extended in 1980.
Horndon on the Hill
Horndon on the Hill conservation area was designated in 1969.
Orsett
Orsett conservation area was designated in 1975.
Purfleet
Purfleet conservation area was designated in 1985.
West Tilbury
West Tilbury conservation area was designated in 1991.
