Homelessness

Our Find a Home scheme helps Thurrock residents who are homeless, or threatened with homelessness, by providing funds to secure accommodation in the private sector.

The scheme offers:

• a one-off cash payment equal to 2 months’ rent
• financial help to rent a property in an area of choice, if you are eligible
• an opportunity to find a property that meets your needs and is affordable within Local Housing Allowance rates
• payments made directly to the agent or landlord of the property on your behalf

The landlord must provide:

• proof of property ownership
• an energy performance certificate (EPC)
• a gas safety certificate
• an electrical safety certificate
• a carbon monoxide alarm, if appropriate
• a copy of the signed tenancy agreement

Eligibility

You can benefit from this scheme if:

• you are homeless or threatened with homelessness
• you are aged between 18 and 59 years-old
• you receive Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance or are on a low income and receive of Working Tax Credit
• you are unable to afford to pay a rent deposit or rent in advance
• you would be willing to accept a tenancy for 12 months
